Energybrazil is now back to being a website, just like when I started publishing web pages around 2001. Since then, all the websites I have created have always been in English. A rather bizarre English, I must admit, but they were in English. The main motivation was to keep in touch with foreigners, so that I could exchange information about my favorite artists and, most importantly, buy their records. At first, I adopted the title Euro Hi-Energy Brazil, because that would cover most of the styles of music I like, but over time I saw that the abbreviation summed up well – or even better – what I wanted to convey, sometimes functioning as a nickname, sometimes as a brand. The latest version of Energybrazil was in the form of a blog and I must confess that I was pleased with the result. Many will say that the only modern thing is to have a microblogging site on Twitter, but I believe that blogs in the format they have today will continue to be popular for a long time to come. They help those who have no idea about programming to organize their posts and images, and encourage those who have never written anything to easily publish their ideas. Of course, all this ease has led to the emergence of terrible content, ranging from gross spelling and grammar errors to the unauthorized appropriation of links, images and even ideas. One of the greatest examples of this is Wikipedia itself. Since it is a free content site, anyone can go there and post content, or modify content that has already been written. There is a version in Portuguese where I wrote about the Euro Disco in Brazil. I have lost count of how many times I have edited this story, whether due to vandalism or even out-of-context modifications. Not to mention that, since it is under a Creative Commons license, the correct thing to do is to cite the source and the author. But that is not what happens. I recently even saw a video on YouTube that featured a poor translation into English of my text, probably done by those automatic translators. Of course, creating a website and using a Creative Commons license doesn't eliminate the possibility of it being copied, but it's much easier to manage than a website that isn't mine. I don't want to discredit a blog post that tells a story, but the problem is that it becomes unimportant as other posts take its place. Whereas a static page on a website will always show the main content in the spotlight. Not to mention that I noticed something curious while I was writing the blog. It wasn't just people of my generation – let's say – who wanted more information, but also young people who had only recently started listening to this style of music, influenced by older siblings or friends. However, finding more detailed information about how the whole Euro Disco wave started in one place didn't exist. Stories that others told became a game of Chinese whispers, where they were told and modified over time until they were almost completely transformed. Compiling information, checking its veracity and confirming it again. That's what I did here. That's why Energybrazil is once again a website, with a blog, links to other social networks and even a small store where I occasionally post some vinyl records, CDs and DVDs. Take advantage of all this, leave comments, share, like and spread the word to your friends.
