Jabatan Sukarelawan Malaysia (RELA) is a volunteer organization to assist the security forces in their movement against the country's enemies from within and outside the country. RELA was established on 3 July 1972 under the 'Required (People's Volunteer Association) Regulations 1966, which were created under the 'Emergency (Required Powers) Act 1964'. The basis for the existence of RELA began in 1948, when Perbangunan Kawalan Kampung or "Home Guard" was formed during the first emergency in force in the Malay Land Federation. The establishment of the Home Guard was under the Emergency Ordinance of 1948 and placed under the jurisdiction of the Home Guard Regulations of 1950 and 1951.
