Since 19 August 1945, the agricultural sector has been under the Ministry of Prosperity which was the first cabinet of the Republic of Indonesia after independence, with Ir. R. P. Surachman Tjokroadisurjo as the first Minister of Prosperity. Because the situation in Indonesia at that time was still chaotic due to the arrival of the Dutch army, the Ministry of Prosperity established a branch in Magelang led by R.M. Reksohadiprojo. In July 1947, the office was moved to Borobudur and then moved to Yogyakarta. With Presidential Regulation Number 47 of 2009 concerning the Establishment and Organization of State Ministries, the Department of Agriculture changed to the Ministry of Agriculture.
