Russian gardens are often informal and casual, with the goal of creating a naturalized setting. Trees appear in groves, as they do here. The lovely structure along the La Crosse river is called besedka, modeled after a beautiful structure placed along the Volga River in Dubna. Our besedka is dedicated to all the volunteers who contributed to this sister-city relationship. Dubna is a northern city, and our garden features a variety of plants hardy in the north country.
