After working as a publisher for twenty years, I know all the tricks of the publishing trade. I published more than five hundred management books, including many bestsellers such as the books by Jos Burgers (including De Wet van Snuf, Klanten zijn eigen nog mensen and Geef nooit korting) and Het innovatiedoolhof by Gijs van Wulfen (Management book of the year 2017). When I was a publisher, I discovered that many authors did not think carefully about what was involved in publishing a book. The focus was often on the end result, while many choices were made on the way there. For example, many authors start writing without a well-defined plan.
