    General Information

The Abu Simbel Temples are two massive rock-cut temples located in southern Egypt, near the border with Sudan. They were built by the pharaoh Ramses II in the 13th century BC to honor himself and the goddess Hathor. The temples are famous for their colossal statues of Ramses II and other deities, which are carved directly into the sandstone cliffs. The Great Temple is dedicated to Ramses II and the goddess Hathor, while the Small Temple is dedicated to Ramses II and his wife, Nefertari.
