Arlene House (Kapitan Chung Thye Phin Building), also known as "Phin Kee Chan" was commissioned in 1905 by Kapitan Chung Thye Phin. He was a prominent tin miner, rubber planter, general-revenue farm owner and the "Last Kapitan China of Perak and Malaya". The building was used as the Headquarters to manage his vast business empire during the Tin era of Malaya. This colonial heritage building of Neo-Classical Victorian-Palladian architecture has undergone 8 years conservation works, since 2012 and completed in 2020. It has been restored to its former glory and nostalgic charm of one of the most photographed "picture-postcard landmark and building" of its golden era. As part of its adaptive reuse activities, we have established "Made In Ipoh", a History and Heritage Gallery-Museum showcasing the theme "The Last Kapitan Of Malaya" and "Ipoh, The City That Tin Built" with walk-in/guided tour visits, changing exhibitions and activities.
