The Forbidden City, also called the "Former Palace" and the "Palace Museum", was a complex of government palaces and the residence of the Chinese Emperor and members of his household during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, between 1420 and 1924. It was also the center of Chinese government for most of five centuries.
