    General Information

The Kota Intan Bridge, also known as Jembatan Kota Intan in Indonesian, stands as a historic landmark within Jakarta's Kota Tua, or Old Town. Built in 1628 by the Dutch East India Company, it proudly holds the title of being Indonesia's oldest bridge. Nestled over the Kali Besar, or Big River, it has witnessed centuries of Jakarta's rich history unfold. Originally functioning as a Bascule bridge, its unique design featured double "leafs" that would swing upward to allow maritime traffic to pass during the colonial era. Today, under the stewardship of the Jakarta Provincial Tourism and Culture Department, this hanging bridge continues to captivate visitors with its timeless charm and historical significance, serving as a testament to Jakarta's colonial past and enduring heritage.
