is a Jogye School Buddhist temple in Seoul. It was first founded in 1395 during the Joseon Dynasty. However, the current temple building dates from 1910. Jogyesa is the only Buddhist temple located in Jongno, within the city walls of Seoul. Initially called Gakwangsa, then changed to Taegosa during the Japanese Colonization in Korea. In 1936 it became the main temple of Jogye, the sect of Buddhism with the largest followers in South Korea. Taegosa was then called Jogyesa in 1954.
