The Jatinegara Struggle Monument, situated at the convergence of Jalan Jatinegara Barat and Jalan Urip Sumoharjo in East Jakarta, stands as a poignant tribute to the indomitable spirit of resistance. Crafted by sculptor Haryadi, this monument, juxtaposed against the backdrop of the Koinonia Church, commands attention with its profound symbolism. Atop a three-meter-high concrete pedestal, two human figures emerge, immortalized in bronze. The towering figure of a young man, 2.5 meters in stature, stands resolute with crossed arms, clutching a rifle and adorned with wartime gear, emblematic of valor and determination. Beside him, a smaller statue depicts a barefoot boy in shorts, gripping a slingshot around his neck, symbolizing the youthful courage and unwavering resolve in the face of adversity. Originally intended for Viaduct Park in Jatinegara, logistical constraints led to its relocation to Jalan Matraman Raya, where it continues to serve as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made during times of struggle and strife.
