Megalith stones are large pre-historic stones that have been used to build structures or monuments, either alone or built together with other stones. The term "Megalith" was first used in 1849 by Algernon Herbert of Britain to refer to the Stonehenge monument. This word comes from Ancient Greek (Mega means big and lithos means stone). Most of the megalith stones erected are between the Neolithic (although earlier examples of the Mesolithic are known), the Chalcolithic and the Bronze Age.
